BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 7(Time:2015-02-04 16:08:04)
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to download the draft of the Issue 7 Food Standard and provide comments. BRC had 2856 downloads from 89 countries and over 1,000 comments for the working group to review. BRC have also run a series of successful roadshows around Europe, which allowed 260 people in the industry to air their views, and webinars in North America to receive feedback on the new proposals, and carried out a series of trial audits. All of this information will be reviewed by BRC Working Groups in Europe and North America and used to modify the draft to develop the final Standard. The hard work will then begin to translate the finished Standards into mulitiple languages, develop the auditor training courses and publish supporting guidance documents ready for launch in January 2015. The new Standard will not be used for audits until July 2015.Enhanced Supply Chain Controls
The development of the new BRC Global Standard for Food Safety issue 7 includes a section intended to assist businesses in assessing their vulnerability to fraud. The finalised standard will be published in January 2015. The new Standard includes the provision for additional voluntary modules either general or retailer specific which provides the opportunity to reduce the need for multiple overlapping audits of food manufacturers.
- Retailers have implemented enhanced controls including re-approval of suppliers to produce dedicated suppliers lists and wider implementation of unannounced supplier audits.
- The BRC introduced an agents and brokers standard to cover businesses within the supply chain not routinely subject to traceability audits.
